Q: How do I find out if you are at my local school?
A: To view our school schedule, click here.
Q: If you do not service my school, can you add us?
A: Every year we add new schools to our service. There must be a minimum of 25 children willing to participate. If you are a parent, please have your principal or school nurse call us at 553-5607 and we will be happy to meet with the administration to let them know how it works, answer any questions, and coordinate schedules.
Q: What time is the mobile unit in operation?
A: The time varies: It depends on which school we are at. We start when the school day starts and end when the school bell rings.
Q: What procedures can you perform?
A: We are fully equipped for both preventive and restorative procedures, including: cleanings, exams, X-rays, fluoride treatments, sealants, extractions, crowns, baby root canals (which are not as invasive as root canals for adults), and simple fillings. We are even equipped to offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to patients who may need it.
Q: What if my child needs extensive dental work that cannot be completed on the mobile unit?
A: If your child needs further work, we have offices you can visit to finish the work all over Albuquerque and the state of New Mexico. We will automatically transfer the records, and you can choose the best location that works for you. For a list of locations, click here.
Q: Do you accept my insurance?
A: We accept most insurances, even Medicaid! Medicaid gets paid for in full with no out of pocket expenses to you. With private insurance, plans vary depending on your carrier. Most insurances go by a table: 100% preventive (cleaning, X-rays, etc.), 80% basic (any filling and extracts, etc.), 50% major (some root canals and crowns, depending on your insurance), with a deductible that ranges from $25 to $50. They also tend to have a $1500 limit of coverage per year. If you do not have insurance we offer discounted self pay options or in some cases a grant (see below).
Affordable Self-Pay Prices are as follows:
|Cleaning & Exams||$60.00|
Q: What if I have no insurance?
A: Grants are often given for children who have no dental coverage at all.
Q: Will my child be able to go back to class after treatment?
A: Yes, your child may be numb for about an hour, but Smiles for NM Kids will let the teacher and the child know they won't be able to feel there lips for awhile, and to not play with it.
Q: Do I have to pick up my child after treatment due to the N2O (laughing gas)?
A: No, we put the child on N2O (NItrous Oxide) 30 % and O2 (Oxygen)70% for about 5 minutes, this allows the N2O to start working. This will give your cihild a floating sensation. 5 minutes before the procedure is done we use 100% O2 which flushes all the N2O out of their system.
